Of all the cultural places we’ve visited during our holy week vacation in Cebu aside from the exceptional churches we’ve been to, what fascinated me most was my experience at the French House popularly known as the La Vie Parisienne. It was a french-inspired place having a bakery, wine house and an outdoor type of setting with huge umbrellas and lighting up cherry-blossom trees. It is located right at the heart of the city taking you to Cebuanos captivating version of Paris. La Vie Parisienne, or Parisian Life, was the first French boulangerie (bakery), pastry shop, and wine library in Cebu according to history. The shop offers a variety of wines to choose from normally on top of the list of Cebuanos who love to drink wine. Located along Gorordo avenue, La Vie Parisienne has become one of the stops in the Queen City of the South. It creates number of pastries and bakery products, including croissants and bread rolls to mention some of them. It also caters good selection of cheeses and cold cuts to complement the French and local savory wines.
Upon entering, you will smell the aroma of the freshly baked french breads especially their best-selling croissants. With a picnic basket, you are free to choose from their breads you wish to taste. You will also get to choose your choice of wine and it will be served in a few minutes, already chilled.
We went there during the night and we saw the cherry blossom trees in full glow as the ‘night lights’. The place is so relaxing and it must be the ambiance of a romantic family and friends date night. The moment I entered La Vie, my eyes were filled with amusement as if I travelled to the City of Light where it got its inspiration as I mentioned earlier. Paris is actually called the City of Light since it was one of the focal points during the Age of Enlightenment. It was also one of the first cities in the world to use street lights.
The place was already renovated recently and it now has a bigger space in its air-conditioned area which can accommodate more guests and visitors. The place is elevated and there is an outdoor dining area located in the lawn in front of another French restaurant, La Maison Rose. I really felt that I was away from the busiest streets in Cebu that first night of visit. It is beautifully designed without a doubt.
